Been a while...

For the sake of it... I'm going to LINK an image I made... no reason, just because I feel like it.

As for what I've been doing? Living my life for others... probably a part of why I felt like posting the image I made... I did it, for me, because I wanted to, because I felt like it & I don't feel like I'm selfish enough anymore. I'm always going to campus or doing this chore or that thing for whoever & not for me...

Maybe that's a bit of an asinine line of thought, perhaps even pretencious... but I don't care if I'm being pompous, I have the damned right to get out of line from time to time and I haven't cut loose in quite the while. Honestly, I feel an old philosophy of mine nagging at me... when I was a younger man, I felt as if I could transcend the problems and emotions in my life with the use of controlled violence... being bludgeoned in a mosh pit relieves a lot of stress and I think that's something I've nearly forgotten about.

I lead such a sedentary life, even when in leisure... seems like I'm always sitting down and when I'm standing its only for the purpose of moving to a new place to sit down. I truly do appreciate a good place where I can sit in comfort, though, I feel that there's this anxious pit growing inside of me... begging me to do something, anything... we used to just walk the streets when I was younger... for the sake of it, almost always late at night, probably because things seemed a lot cooler when you weren't supposed to do them, but still, I miss roaming and simply going for no other reason than to keep the boredom from setting in.

I'm incredibily bored, seems like I only get the rarest distraction these days & nothing can suffice... I'm trying to vent through artistic mediums again, but a friend and business partner and I have decided to go for a more serious note in the larger endeavor and we've come to the point of seeing profit lines in it, so, more work than play makes me think I'm getting a bit dull.

I don't know if anyone reads this, I doubt it, but just in case... don't worry, I'm not depressed or upset, I'm not going to go postal or anything... just venting my thoughts like I like to do from time to time. I'll probably end up posting here a number of times in the near future just to feel like I'm getting something out, but then again, it might go neglected for months on end like it did prior to this post.

US Military spending $50 million on Video Games

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3171494

& BAM! A recruitment center in Second Life is the answer?

http://tech.yahoo.com/news/zd/20081205/tc_zd/234710

If you're wondering what exactly Second Life is, well... here's the wikipedia page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Life

Me personally... I don't play crap like Second Life & think that the military fucked up by making a choice to promote through the game, they'd probably have had better luck through a number of other franchise titles. Call of Duty... Medal of Honor... on & on, I could make a list of games that would have probably been a bit more appealing & worth-while for the military in comparison to a largely peaceful & easy-going virtual community. Hell, now that Kojima is basically gone from the Metal Gear series & it is essentially owned by Konami, the U.S. military might have been able to buy a smash-hit title to fill with propaganda... Nonetheless, point being, people bitch about violence in video games & the content of games & all sorts of crap, yet, nothing about this. A-okay I suppose? Eh...

Mortal Kombat & Grand Theft Auto were corrupting the youth & Doom fueled the Columbine high-school shootings, though, the military trying to recruit kids through video games isn't a problem or even an issue known by most folks. World of Warcraft & 'video game addiction' are supposed to be news worthy instead...

But hey, don't think this is the whole of it, not in the least... check this out...

http://www.americasarmy.com/

Propaganda just met the 21st century & that's typically old news for most kids. That's a video game made by the united states military, published & put out with an interactive online community, all filled up with advertisements for enlisting in the service. Notice, the title got a T for Teen rating by the ESRB... & that's important because it means that my previous use of the word "kids" is very appropriate. For a bit about why this game receiving a T for Teen rating is an issue.. well, here's a link to the controversy section of the wikipedia page for this game...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America's_Army#Controversy

So... other than trying to recruit kids & glorify war & military life, what is the military doing with video games? Would you believe me if I said, trying to prevent suicide?

http://www.thestandard.com/news/2008/12/01/army-suicide-rates-video-games

Want to play the demo? Link follows...

http://willinteractive.com/demos/beyond-the-front/

I suggest you might consider clicking through it to at least read the disclaimers... a bit interesting if nothing else.

However, this still doesn't end there... We have veterans protest outside a U.S. Army-sponsored video game tournament... "It's like giving candy to kids," Sacramento Veterans for Peace president John C. Reiger said. "It's sort of like military pedophilia in a way, preying on our young people."

http://www.news10.net/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=51581&catid=2

I know that a whole hell of a lot of people don't really give a damn about video games for the most part, though, as video games have increasingly become integrated into our culture, especially the culture of the youth, the issues that arise around them have become far more serious & relative to each & every one of us, regardless of if we play them or not. First it was the odd video game instead of a pinball machine... Now, well... GTA sold over $300 million in a 24 hour period of time, beating out the Harry Potter craze & taking the world record in the process for highest ever entertainment earner within the first 24 hours after release.

Not only this, though, in a time when the economy & market are typically fucked, the video game industry has been relatively unscathed... in actuality, the video game industry is bigger than ever & more or less, growing while near to all else is faltering.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5hbnOSsybCzJICcuK2m2m-ROwF32Q

We're looking at something that has gone vastly & immensely beyond Pong & Tetris. Video games have become so influential & substantial that they have become an industry in its own standing, one that has an impact in the economy & entertainment industry. More over, these games have come to the point of being not only considered with seriousness by the military, yet, seized upon by the military as a viable tool for recruitment.

So... how to end this? Why not with a quote, from a character in a video game, about war?

"War has changed. It's no longer about nations, ideologies or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID tagged soldiers carry ID tagged weapons, use ID tagged gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. War has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield, controls history. War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control, war...becomes routine." -- Solid Snake, from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Shut up & get in line...

This point is about something simple...

Every single living human being is doing the exact same thing at the exact same time... we're all breathing. If we're all doing the exact same thing at the exact same time, we can't really be all that different...

You're not special, you're not unique...

Shut the fuck up & get in line, wait your fucking turn.

Impatience & self-centered attitudes lead to the degeneration of civility... should the niceties be excluded, then humans no longer have reason to be concerned with anything other than their individual & personal livelihoods... when that happens, the killing starts quickly.

Easy example, is the death of a walmart employee who was trampled while trying to open the doors for the start of the 'black friday bargains'... cheap prices on trivial objects & single-minded imbeciles rushing forward like lemmings that don't know when to stop pushing ahead....

I fear to leave my home for the uncouth degeneration of what I once thought of as humanity.

Current thoughts #3

My weekends have been more of a chore than anything else, over worked & not paid at all... where's the break? & to think of how this is going to be when it is more drastic towards the end of the month... fucking holidays.

I dislike campus, though, I dislike being on "academic probation" as it was called in the letter sent to me, even more so. Truth is, a complete lack of regard for the student occurred & now the student suffers as a result... the rules even changed based on the same incident afterwards & a specific course now has a prerequisite it didn't used to, though, that changes nothing for me. Bah... I have to get up early because of inadequacies in policy & oversight.

I haven't gotten enough sleep & I probably shouldn't be sitting here writing this, though, I've been neglectful enough to the endeavor as is.

I wonder if they wrote it down in my file when I had my little outburst in educational planning... out to be interesting when I show up tomorrow & go through the routine with my new inquiries.

Far from me... Mumbai was a tragedy & it is my opinion that these crazy religious freaks just fucked up big time by trying to go after India... not to imply that the tragic loss of life was in its self a positive event, however, the long term impact of these events will not be in favor of those who planned them & called for them to be carried out. My understanding of history is that these same crazy religious freaks fucked up big time the last time they did something like this, so, chances are, they just fucked up big time once more. I think that India will be relentless in their pursuit of these villains...

I'm unaffiliated, though, I really enjoy this guy's postings... ran into the whole thing playing urban dead [www.urbandead.com] & from there found my way to radiosurvivor.blogspot.com & some of the various other projects started & ending up in this current endeavor, check it out, the cooking shows are especially keen.

http://dollarmovie.blogspot.com/

Ummmm... I wish he posted his videos in a fashion that allowed me to embed them elsewhere, so, I'm going to post a comment on his spot later about that thought.

yeah... I don't want to post anymore of my current thoughts, they're getting too serious & well, at this point in time it's far too personal to post & retain enough of my anonymity, so, onto the next post.

Current Thoughts #2

My current thoughts postings aren't always going to be relevant to the news... sometimes I'm just going to post up what I'm thinking. Like so...

My girlfriend likes to watch old sitcoms that drive me damned near insane... from the original star trek to the facts of life... whatever the fuck it was that George Lopez's was called... Home Improvement... 3rd Rock from the sun... I Love Lucy... Bewitched... Sabrina the teenage witch... on & on & fucking on... sometimes I can't stand it.

I think the reason why people invented aerosol cans of fart spray was to combat the people who try to spray you with perfume & cologne & stuff like that outside stores in the mall.

How the fuck am I already half way through that half ounce? Oh... that's right... mom... & Ben.

I probably should have graciously accepted the offer for money, rather than politely refusing.

& to think that I'd turn down money during an economic crisis... goes to show that class & gentility goes farther than the rest of the bullshit people try to call out as being important.

I support NORML... & not just because I'm a stoner that doesn't want to get incarcerated, though, because I feel that one cannot intelligently support prohibition against an intoxicant as a way to stymie the substance's popularity & abuse.

"Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen.. well, suffice to say that the BBC voted it as the best driving song of all time for a reason. What else do you listen to when you're sitting at the computer, geeked & reefing out over a track that's posted to footage of Super Mario Galaxy?

... can't fucking believe that I have to go outside to smoke.

I need to buy some new pants.

Really? ...Seriously?

So, I was informed today, while at Walmart, that I could not operate a bulky metal cart [one meant for moving heavy objects alike furniture] myself... because it posed a safety risk to either myself or others... what training course that requires, I don't know. However, yesterday, yes, yesterday, the day before today, I was allowed to operate one no problem.

Though, this isn't the incredibly stupid part... what's so fucking dumb, is that while we can't move a bulky metal cart because of the safety issue, it is apparently fine & dandy for us to move things that weigh hundreds of pounds on & off of the cart without help.

Granted, we could request help if we wanted to burden those people more so than they already are with employment as horrid as Walmart [don't look at me, I wasn't shopping there, just helping others who couldn't move what they wanted to buy by themselves]... though, being somewhat of decent people we weren't trying to do that... hell, my friend & I were only there to help move heavy shit, might as well do it or it makes our presence as redundant as the half assed corporate policies that wouldn't let us operate something as simple as a fucking cart, while we could move around enough weight to kill somebody, all in the name of "safety".

Meanwhile, when somebody tells you something so stupid, you know it isn't in the name of safety, the entire dumb-fuck of bureaucracy is all about liability... & if it becomes liability that's one thing, but be honest about it & say so. Don't tell me, "you could hurt yourself" because that insults my intelligence, it implies that I'm stupid enough to injure myself with a bulky metal cart...

Now, as far as how these types of bureaucratic dumb-fucks are going... well, let us just take a look at the financial institutions currently faltering [there's a fucking time & date on the post & if you're too fucking stupid to look it up in reference to the economy, fuck you, you're the sort of imbecile who'd hurt somebody with a shopping cart & create a bureaucratic dumb-fuck of policy to enforcement over liability!] as a result of what was supposedly "bad loan practices"... at least, that's what you'll get told by some jackass reporter on a major news network.

You go ask your local friendly patron at damned near any blue-collar bar in the nation & they'll tell you that the entire scenario boils down to the rich making sure they stay that way... not that I frequent bars, though, I smoke enough pot with people who do to be able to tell you the sort of shit that they'd be liable to say.

As far as me & my ultimate opinion... well, this is all about the empirical control of wealth & power structures. This is about trying to stymie the cycle of death & rebirth within the global economic structures... truth be told, it has far less to do with the sanctity of the working man than damned near anything else, because commoners barter their ways through the turmoil that those grasping for a hold on the empirical control over wealth & power structures face in times like these. The real threat here, is the commoners who don't try to barter, though, lunge for the reigns & take ownership & have hold of the course & decide the direction for the future wealth & power. That's what all this "bailout package" talk is about...

Current thoughts #1

So... on one side of the world we have people playing pirates in the most literal sense, quite so that there isn't any playing around involved, at least, none that I've heard of. Just goes to show that we're not quite to the road warrior stance over shit in the developed world as of yet... good news too, means there's some hope out there.

Then, you've got a bunch of asshats lined up for the release of the new blackberry cellphone whatever... what can I say, at least they're moving the economy along on some level or another, way to go super geeks!

There's a big uproar about some kids online suicide, like it was the first time this sort of thing has happened... the video is the only thing that's making this an issue from where I'm sitting. Sadly, this sort of thing has happened before & even more sadly, it will likely happen again.

I hope Al Franken gets into office... because he's good enough & he's smart enough & gosh dangit, people like him... besides the locals & the obsessive, who's even heard of that other guy?

Then we've got Verizon workers getting fired over a breach on Obama's cellphone or some shit.. which, is a load of crap... it's an issue when a person does it to the government, but when the government does it to a bunch of people, well, that's fine & dandy... fuck that, cheers to the guy who got canned, I'll smoke'em a blunt or buy'em a beer if I happen to run into guy somewhere & it gets brought up.

Craziest of all... people are floating around in space, working on some crazy shit & that's well beyond what most of us are up to trying. Give it up for the astronauts... they stuck with it, they did what everybody wanted to do, they're up there living the life, making the dream happen.

Somebody just shot up the local mall earlier today, known as "South Center"... it's in Tukwila Washington. Two hit, one killed, the other critical... sounds like it was either some personal drama between the parties involved, or something gang related. Very specific for such a public place... & what's strange, "was last seen running through the mall, wearing a one-piece black outfit with red piping," said Mike Murphy of the Tukwila police.

Fuck Texas. I had to get drunk to enjoy myself in that state & I've never liked the whole "Don't mess with ____" type of attitude... you say some stupid shit like that & what's the first thing somebody does? They go & mess with it... keep in mind, this is the place where they killed Kennedy... & really, for all I care, Mexico can take it back any time now.

I hate math... I know it can be incredibly useful, but I just don't like it, never have, probably never will. There's just a certain level where, when you've learned how to multiply, divide, subtract, add & average... you can balance your check book & there isn't much left for you to do if you're not trying to go into applied sciences.

I want to go play video games... I'm going to go play video games.
